Golfer to play 1,000 courses in 1,000 days for charity

David Tuscarny will play 1,000 golf courses in 1,000 days from January 1, 2027, raising £500,000 for dementia research.

David Tuscarny will attempt to play 1,000 different golf courses in 1,000 days starting January 1, 2027, aiming to raise £500,000 for charity. The challenge is in memory of his mother, Jenny Layton, who lived in North Cove near Beccles and died in January this year after living with dementia. She had worked for Essex & Suffolk Water in Lowestoft for 20 years.

Tuscary explained his motivation: "This started with my mum. She loved birds, animals and being out in the countryside. Walking was her thing until dementia made her too frail to do it. I looked after her through dementia, and after losing her I wanted to do something in her memory that was positive, that would get me out there, and that could hopefully make a difference to other families."

The fundraiser aims to raise £500,000, with 80 per cent going to Alzheimer's Research UK and 20 per cent to the Golf Foundation. Tuscarny will begin at Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire, where he will be joined by Josh Simpson, who holds the world record for the most golf courses played in a single year. He plans to play more than one course during visits to clubs with multiple courses, creating 'bank days' in case of bad weather, injuries or course closures.
