Harrogate primary school pupils will pair with disabled artists for a free six-week mosaic project.
Primary school pupils in Harrogate will take part in a free mosaic art project pairing them with disabled artists during the coming academic year. The charity Artizan International will deliver the Mosaics for Schools programme at three primary schools, working with Year five and six pupils for six weeks. The project is funded by a £1,956 grant from the Banks Group, which covers staffing and materials.
Liz Cluderay, chief executive at Artizan International, said the programme has been one of their most successful projects, with pieces of art already on display in schools across the region including stepping stones, friendship benches, welcome boards and a playground wall. She added: 'Primary school children may not yet have had the chance to spend much time with people with disabilities and we aim to use art as a way of helping them build their understanding about them as both people and creative artists.'
Jamilah Hassan, community relations manager at the Banks Group, said the programme would give both local children and disabled artists 'a range of new creative and social opportunities'.
