The family of Henry Nowak, an 18-year-old fatally stabbed in Southampton on 3 December 2025, have spoken to ITV about his death and police bodycam footage.
The family of Henry Nowak, an 18-year-old from Chafford Hundred, spoke for the first time in an exclusive interview for an ITV Tonight documentary titled Dear Henry: Our Fight For Justice. His father Mark, stepmother Katie, mother Lucy and older sister Olivia discussed the moment they learned of his death after he was fatally stabbed in Southampton on 3 December 2025.
Katie Nowak recalled the moment police arrived at their home to deliver the news. 'I jumped out of bed and I saw the police car on our driveway,' she told ITV. 'One of the police officers was holding his hat in his hand, and I just knew straight away that something horrific had happened.' She described her husband Mark falling to his knees when he heard the news, saying 'He let out a cry that I'll never forget.'
The case attracted widespread political attention after police bodycam footage emerged showing the moment officers responded to the scene. In the video, Nowak can be heard repeatedly saying 'I've been stabbed' to which an officer replies 'Don't think you have, mate.' At the time, Nowak was being handcuffed by officers after his attacker, Vickrum Digwa, had falsely accused him of racial abuse.
Vickrum Digwa was subsequently jailed for Nowak's murder. The family said their 'world has changed twice': once when they learned of his death and again when they watched the bodycam footage. The Home Secretary announced an independent review following the controversy over the police response.
