Two men win award for saving drowning man from Thames

Two men have been recognised with a Royal Humane Society award after saving a man from drowning in the River Thames.
Charles Maynard, a Kent skipper from Sevenoaks, was driving a Thames river boat on 18 February when he spotted a man jump from Westminster Bridge. He immediately alerted his colleague Ian Davis from Eltham.
Davis quickly boarded another vessel and used a boat hook to reach the man in the water. Meanwhile, Maynard jumped on to the nearby Westminster Pier, ran along it and joined Davis at the water's edge.
The pair pulled the man from the water, risking being swept into the Thames themselves in the process. They kept him warm and conscious until emergency services arrived at the scene.
In recognition of their life-saving actions, both Charles Maynard and Ian Davis are to receive Royal Humane Society Testimonials on Parchment. Andrew Chapman, secretary of the Royal Humane Society, said: "Thankfully Mr Maynard was on the spot, saw the man hit the water and was able to immediately alert his colleague and then join him so that together they could get the man to safety. They did a superb job and put themselves in danger of being pulled into river at the same time."
Chapman noted that many other incidents where lives are saved go unrecognised because those involved are never put forward for awards.
