Actor James McAvoy was punched in the back of the head in a Canadian pub by a man being ejected for disorderly behaviour.

Edinburgh Live reports that James McAvoy was attacked in Charlotte's Room, a pub in Toronto, in September whilst attending the city's film festival for the world premiere of his directorial debut California Schemin'. The actor was having a quiet evening with his producers when a man who was being ejected by bouncers for disorderly behaviour allegedly punched him hard in the back of the head as he walked past.

Speaking on Late Night with Seth Meyers, McAvoy described his immediate reaction. He said he 'went from zero to ninety in about three seconds' and rushed at the man, resulting in a tussle. His producers intervened and pulled him away. McAvoy then decided not to involve the police, saying 'I need to go back to London I need to be with my wife and kids and if I'm with the police, that's not going to happen'.
