Microsoft has announced the Xbox Nano Controller, a smaller gamepad priced at $49.99 designed for younger players and portable gaming.

Microsoft has announced the Xbox Nano Controller, priced at $49.99. The controller is just over five inches long and weighs 3.5 ounces, making it Microsoft's smallest controller. It is designed for younger players, those with smaller hands, and anyone wanting a portable gamepad for gaming on the move.

The Nano Controller features the standard Xbox controller layout with all regular buttons. It includes Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth connectivity, allowing it to work with Xbox consoles, PCs, phones, tablets, and certain smart TVs. The controller has a rechargeable battery, unlike most Xbox controllers which require AA batteries.

The gamepad includes a programmable Action Button that can be customised through the Xbox Accessories app to perform functions such as taking screenshots or capturing gameplay. It connects via USB-C. An earlier leaked version showed a small screen for indicating cloud or console connectivity, but this does not appear in the final shipping model.

Pre-orders for the Xbox Nano Controller are now open, with shipments beginning in November. Engadget reports that Samsung is bundling the controller with two months of Game Pass Ultimate for new TV subscribers in the US during the holiday season, with similar offers planned for Meta Quest headsets.
