An 18-year-old Mexican woman died after falling from a spinning carnival ride at a festival in Los Cabos.

Gabriela Rodriguez Tezoco, 18, fell from 'The Pendulum', a spinning ride at the Cabo San Lucas Traditional Festivals in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, on Tuesday night. Video footage taken by another rider captured her plummeting to the ground while the ride continued at high speed, with other passengers screaming as she fell.

Emergency services treated Tezoco and transported her to a nearby hospital, where she died from her injuries early Wednesday morning. The Los Cabos City Council issued a statement expressing sorrow over her death, saying she had been 'immediately transferred to receive medical attention' but 'lost her life despite the efforts of the health personnel'.

'The Pendulum' ride was closed following the incident while safety tests are carried out on it and other attractions at the fair. Los Cabos mayor Christian Agundez told reporters that an investigation has been opened into the circumstances and to determine potential liability. Agundez called for the community to support Tezoco's family.
