House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries, on track to become the first Black House Speaker, hailed the midterm results as the start of a 'great American comeback'. Speaking to supporters after House control was called for Democrats, he said the results represented voters sending Congress a message.

Jeffries vowed that Democrats would use their expected majority in the new Congress to pursue accountability. 'We're going to bring accountability to those who have visited unprecedented corruption on this country,' he told supporters. He argued that voters had voted to end extremism and corruption.
