Millions of pounds are being invested in Lake District hotels, creating hundreds of jobs and adding accommodation across the region.

Millions of pounds are being invested in hotels across the Lake District as developers and operators push ahead with major refurbishment and expansion projects. From Windermere to Grasmere and Keswick, landmark hotels are being transformed, creating new jobs and adding accommodation.

One of the largest projects underway is at The Windermere Hotel, a Victorian landmark in the town. BH Group, which acquired the hotel, has launched a multi-million-pound refurbishment programme. Plans include a complete redesign of all 75 bedrooms, a new restaurant, lounge and bar, together with a luxury spa, health club and spa garden. Up to 130 year-round jobs are forecast once the project is fully complete. BH Group previously transformed The Swan Hotel and Spa at Newby Bridge through a £7.5 million investment programme.

The Wordsworth in Grasmere has just reopened after a major redevelopment by The Inn Collection Group on 6 November. The project increased the number of bedrooms from 38 to 56 and introduced upgraded public spaces, expanded dining facilities and a large beer garden.

In the north of the county, expansion plans have been approved for the Derwentwater Hotel at Portinscale near Keswick. Owner Alpha Hotels Ltd, part of the Alfa Holiday Group, secured planning permission for a scheme that will deliver a new ballroom, restaurant, café and eight additional bedrooms.
