Hill Top farmhouse near Hawkshead will host a Christmas experience from November 7 to December 13, 2026.

Beatrix Potter's Lake District farmhouse Hill Top near Hawkshead will host 'A Hill Top Christmas Tale' from November 7 to December 13, 2026. The event reimagines the house and grounds as a festive scene through the eyes of Peter Rabbit and Potter's much-loved animal characters, inspired by a letter written by Potter in the voice of Peter Rabbit imagining a Christmas gathering of her characters.

Visitors will be greeted by twinkling lights and festive decorations, and invited to step into Peter's Christmas celebrations. Seasonal activities in the garden will draw on Potter's own Christmas card designs, while the farmhouse interior will be dressed with candlelight, greenery, and the scents of cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. A Christmas tree decorated with glass icicles and fairy candles will be a focal point in the hall.

Katy Canales, National Trust curator for Hill Top, said the house will come alive during a season when it has traditionally been closed for winter. Visitors will have the chance to see Potter's original Christmas card designs and recipes on display for the first time. Displays throughout the farmhouse will showcase Potter's artwork and writing in seasonal settings.
