Shed Seven will headline York's LNER Community Stadium on May 29, their largest show to date.
Shed Seven, who formed in York in 1990, will headline what they are calling their biggest show of their career at York City FC's LNER Community Stadium on 29 May 2027. The ground, which opened in 2021 in Huntington, has a capacity of about 14,000 people. This will be the first concert headlined at the stadium.
The band will be supported by The Ks, Reverend and the Makers and The Mersey Beatles. More than 30 years into their career, the milestone performance in their hometown comes as the band prepares to release their seventh studio album, self-titled Shed Seven, in January and embark on a UK winter tour.
Frontman Rick Witter said: 'This is for York. This is where we live, this is where we're from, so we just want to have a really big celebratory night out in our home city.' He also reflected on the band's long career, saying: 'It's so long into our career, but it's amazing, the fact that we have stuck around so long and are still coming up with the goods.'
Witter added that the band had dreamed of such a moment since their youth: 'When we were 14 we were probably discussing in our bedrooms, how great would it be if we could play some of these songs in a stadium in our hometown?'
Shed Seven were part of the 1990s Britpop scene, and their indie rock anthem Chasing Rainbows was adopted by York City fans. The stadium is located in Huntington, where the band members went to school and met.
Tickets go on general sale at 10am on Friday 23 October via Ticketmaster. There will be a special pre-sale for York residents, with local fans given access through QR codes on posters and beer mats. An exclusive artist pre-sale opens at 10am on Tuesday for those signed up to the Shed Seven mailing list, with sign-ups closing at 12pm on Monday.
