A 32-year-old man has been jailed for two years after repeatedly following a 15-year-old girl and making sexual comments about her appearance.
Jamie Fowler, 32, of Locking in North Somerset, was sentenced to two years in prison at Swindon Crown Court on 13 October. He was convicted of breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) that had been in place for more than a decade.
On 15 July, Fowler drove to Trowbridge in Wiltshire and repeatedly approached a 15-year-old girl as she walked home from school. The courts heard that he turned his vehicle around multiple times to continue following her and made sexualised comments about the girl's appearance.
The incident caused considerable distress to the victim. She made a distressed call to her foster mother to come and collect her immediately, saying she was frightened about what might happen next, according to Wiltshire Police.
One of the conditions of Fowler's SHPO prohibits him from contacting or approaching any female under the age of 16. Local Crime Investigator Dalton stated: 'On this occasion, he made a sustained effort to engage a 15-year-old girl in conversation. He then made inappropriate and sexualised comments about her appearance, causing her considerable fear and distress.'
Dalton added: 'No young person should feel unsafe while walking home from school. Fowler has been subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for more than a decade and is fully aware of the restrictions placed upon him. These conditions exist to protect young people, yet he chose to deliberately disregard them.'
The investigator praised the victim's bravery in coming forward, commending 'the courage and maturity she has shown throughout this investigation'.
