Auradaze Japanese restaurant has relocated from Ambleside to Wigton, opening Fridays and Saturdays.
Auradaze Japanese restaurant has relocated from Ambleside to 30 High Street in Wigton, opening on Fridays and Saturdays. The restaurant closed its Ambleside location at Millans Park on Saturday, 30 November 2024, after more than five years operating in the Lake District.
Head chef Darren Yates led the restaurant from its opening and announced in March 2024 that he planned to downsize and sell the Ambleside restaurant. That plan was completed by the end of November.
The restaurant offers an eight-course omakase experience, in which customers trust the chef to choose their meal. Its menu also includes sushi, sashimi and cooked seafood, with vegetarian and vegan options available for customers who do not eat raw fish.
The restaurant allows customers to bring their own alcohol for a single, unlimited corkage fee. Specially imported teas and Japanese soft drinks are also available.
Mr Yates spent five years in Japan studying and training in Japanese cuisine before opening his own restaurant. He previously opened what was described as the 13th Japanese restaurant in the UK, in Wilmslow. The business later expanded to include shops and delis before he relocated to Cumbria.
In a statement about the Ambleside closure, Mr Yates said: 'It's a wrap in Ambleside - thank you everyone who we met and hosted, and thank you for all the laughs along the way.'
