FC Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel died on Tuesday, a day after suffering critical injuries in an in-game collision during a match against FC Andorra at Tenerife's home stadium on Monday. The collision occurred in injury time of a 2-2 draw when De Miguel was charging down the field in search of the ball after a teammate had played a long pass.

De Miguel was a journeyman striker who spent his career moving between clubs in Spain's lower divisions. Born in Madrid in 1996, he began his professional career with Leganes' reserves in 2015 before moving between clubs in and around the capital. His most successful season came at Castellón in 2023, when he scored 16 goals to help the club earn promotion to the second division. After struggling to score in the second tier, he joined Tenerife in summer 2025.

At Tenerife, De Miguel thrived again in the third division, scoring six goals in his first five matches and finishing with 11 goals overall to help the team secure promotion. The left-footed striker was 1.9 metres tall and was known as a traditional striker who competed for balls in the air. Few of Spain's casual soccer fans had heard of De Miguel until news of his death shocked the country.
