Colts conduct fire sale as players request exits

The Indianapolis Colts traded Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, prompting wide receiver Josh Downs to demand a trade.
The Indianapolis Colts made sweeping moves, trading eight-time Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks and Pro Bowl defensive tackle DeForest Buckner to the San Francisco 49ers. The moves came after the firing of general manager Chris Ballard.
In response to the trades, wide receiver Josh Downs has demanded a trade away from the team, according to multiple reports. Downs is the team's leading receiver but has yet to score a touchdown this season, with quarterback Daniel Jones struggling. ESPN NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that trade talks with Downs have been ongoing, and multiple teams including the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers have expressed interest.
Jonathan Taylor's wife Ayanna Taylor expressed concern about the team's direction on social media. In TikTok videos, she questioned whether her husband would be next to leave, noting that the trades came after other roster changes earlier in the season with the departures of Zaire Franklin and Michael Pittman. She said the moves felt like 'rookie year all over again' after spending seven years with the same team and families in Indianapolis.
