The Lake District Tea Co's Kendal Mint Brew won gold at the Great British Food Awards.

The Lake District Tea Co's Kendal Mint Brew has won gold in the tea category at the Great British Food Awards. The tea blend is inspired by the Lake District.

The Great British Food Awards, launched in 2014, celebrate standout British artisanal food and drink across more than 60 categories. Products are awarded gold, silver or bronze based on judging criteria, with regional badges and a single Grand Champion title also announced.

Judging was carried out by a panel of high-profile chefs, food critics and industry figures, including Raymond Blanc OBE and Merlin Griffiths of Channel 4's First Dates.

Mike Sale of The Lake District Tea Co said the company was 'chuffed' to win an award. 'It's amazing for a small company like ours, but to win gold on our first time entering is epic,' he said. 'We've had a pretty good year awards-wise, and being able to bring another award back to the Lakes is always a bit special for everyone in the team.'

The inaugural live presentation ceremony took place on 6 October at ALFI in London.
