Republican congressman Mike Flood won re-election in Nebraska's 1st Congressional District, holding a lead of about 9,000 votes over Democratic challenger Chris Backemeyer as of Wednesday morning.

Flood addressed supporters at Nebraska Republican Party headquarters in Lincoln on Wednesday, surrounded by fellow Republicans including senators Pete Ricketts and Deb Fischer, State Treasurer Joey Spellerberg and Attorney General Mike Hilgers. He said there was more work to do. 'We have to get the Farm Bill done, for God's sake,' Flood said. 'I am very hopeful that we can make something good happen in this lame-duck session.' He cited the National Defence Authorisation Act and Clarity Act alongside the Farm Bill as priorities.

Backemeyer conceded the race and congratulated Flood. 'Together, we motivated thousands of Nebraskans to make their voices heard, hold our government accountable, and send a message that the status quo isn't good enough,' Backemeyer said. 'I know this is not the outcome we hoped for, but it has been the honour of my lifetime to be your nominee.'
