A motorcyclist died after crashing into the sea off the Great Orme in Llandudno on Marine Drive on 29 October. Police received a report of the collision at 10:31pm. The black motorcycle had left the road approximately one mile from the Toll House, towards the direction of the Great Orme summit.
A multi-agency response was launched involving police, HM Coastguard and the RNLI. The Llandudno RNLI's inshore lifeboat and all-weather lifeboat both launched and arrived at the scene within approximately five minutes of the motorcyclist entering the water. A paramedic from a search and rescue helicopter was lowered to the all-weather lifeboat to assist with casualty care.
Despite the considerable efforts of emergency services, the casualty could not be saved. Geoff Cowen, Llandudno RNLI Launch Authority, said: 'This was an incredibly difficult incident for everyone. I cannot speak highly enough of the teamwork, cooperation and determination shown by all involved. Our thoughts are very much with the casualty's family and friends, who have suffered a devastating loss.' Police are appealing for potential witnesses to the incident.
