Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 19 Oct, 21:31 · Archive

A lorry driver has been found guilty of attempting to rape a woman he approached on a country lane near Leicester Forest East services.

Tadeusz Podlasinski, a 60-year-old Polish lorry driver, was found guilty on Monday at Leicester Crown Court of attempted rape, attempted assault by penetration, and intentional strangulation. He denies the charges. He attacked a woman on Baines Lane near Leicester Forest East services on 25 April at around 18:23 BST.

The prosecutor Michael Brady KC told the court that Podlasinski, parked in the service station car park, approached the woman from behind as she walked the lane. He grabbed her and tried to push her into nearby bushes. The woman resisted by holding onto a branch, which snapped. Podlasinski demanded she remove her clothes and, when she screamed for help, grabbed her around the neck with enough force to restrict her breathing and cause visible bruising. He threatened to kill her if she continued to scream.

The woman fought back by pushing him in the face and he then walked away towards the services. She called a friend and was picked up near Grange Avenue. Police arrested Podlasinski at the same service station on 28 April, three days after the attack. He is due to be sentenced on 3 December.
