US rapper Macklemore is performing a series of concerts raising awareness for Palestinian causes after being dropped from Ed Sheeran's tour.
US rapper Macklemore announced and launched a Free Palestine tour across Europe after being dropped from Ed Sheeran's Loop tour last month due to his public support for Palestine. The tour began with a sold-out show at Dublin's 3Arena on Monday night, followed by performances in Paris on Thursday and London at the OVO Arena Wembley on Friday.
Macklemore addressed crowds at the London show with an impassioned speech about the conflict. He said he reached a point where he felt it was more uncomfortable to stay silent than to speak out. "Those children in Gaza are our children. There is no separation," he told the cheering crowd, which responded with chants of 'Free Palestine'. He also performed 'Hind's Hall', a protest song he released in response to the war in Gaza.
The tour features celebrity guest performers and aims to raise money for organisations supporting Palestinians. Artists including Irish singer Hozier, rapper Liam Cunningham and singer Paloma Faith joined performances. Paloma Faith told the Wembley crowd it was important to take a stand despite the risks of public political alignment, saying she was concerned about supporting causes whilst having a family to support.
