Rapper Macklemore opened his Free Palestine benefit tour in Dublin with a sold-out show featuring surprise guests.

Macklemore opened his Free Palestine benefit tour before a sold-out crowd of 13,000 at Dublin's 3Arena, the first European date of the tour. All proceeds from the tour are being donated to organisations assisting Palestinians. Every date on the tour is sold out.

The tour comes after Macklemore was removed from Ed Sheeran's summer US concerts following pro-Palestinian remarks he made during a performance at New Jersey's MetLife Stadium. According to The Guardian, billionaire New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft led efforts to pressurise Sheeran into removing the rapper from the tour.

The Dublin show featured several unannounced guests including Irish band Kneecap and video messages from actors Mark Ruffalo and Cynthia Nixon. The removal from Sheeran's tour raised Macklemore's profile significantly, allowing him to secure larger venues than on his previous European tour.
