Essex rail disruption announced for November with bus replacements

Summarised from 3 outlets · Updated 28 Oct, 09:58 · Archive

GBR Anglia is to carry out major engineering works across Essex routes in November, with trains replaced by buses on selected weekends.

Rail passengers in Essex are being warned to prepare for disruption throughout November as GBR Anglia carries out a programme of major engineering works. The railway company has announced a series of projects across Essex and Suffolk aimed at improving reliability and maintaining the railway, with several routes set to be affected on selected weekends.

The biggest project is a £1 million upgrade of Bures station, on the Essex-Suffolk border, where the platform deck will be completely replaced. The work is intended to improve safety, accessibility and the long-term condition of the platform while retaining its existing layout and appearance.

Engineers will also carry out track maintenance at Marks Tey and Kelvedon, general maintenance on the Southend Victoria and Southminster line and work on the Harwich Town branch. Preparations will take place on the Great Eastern Main Line ahead of significant Christmas engineering work at Forest Gate and Stratford.

The programme means buses will replace trains on a number of Essex routes during November. Passengers have been urged to check their journeys before setting off.

Martin Beable, chief operating officer for GBR Anglia, said the projects are part of the company's ongoing investment in a safer, more reliable railway. He added: 'We know service changes can be inconvenient, and I'd like to thank passengers for their patience while this essential work takes place.'
