Matalan to open first Clacton store in November

Summarised from 3 outlets · Updated 16 Oct, 17:29 · Archive

Matalan will open its first Clacton branch at Brook Retail Park in November, creating more than 30 new jobs. The 3,000-square-foot store is one of several Matalan branches opening nationwide before the end of the year.

The store will offer affordable family clothing, footwear and homeware, including school uniforms. It will have 134 parking spaces for shoppers. The site was proposed by Britton Developments earlier this year.

Annette Ormandy, manager of Matalan Clacton, said: 'We're really looking forward to opening our doors in Clacton for the first time this autumn. A huge amount of work is going into getting the store ready, and we can't wait for local customers to see it.' She added that Matalan was 'proud to be bringing Matalan's latest ranges to Clacton and to become part of the local community, giving customers even more choice across the everyday style, quality and value Matalan is known for.'

Tendring District Council approved the plans last month. The council noted that the store would help boost footfall to neighbouring businesses, which include Tesco, B&Q, KFC and Currys.

American fast-food chain Popeyes is also opening a branch at Brook Retail Park, taking over the former Pizza Hut site. The restaurant will seat 60 diners and create at least 60 jobs. Work on the site is nearing completion, though an opening date has not been confirmed.
