Summarised from 2 outlets · 3 reports · Updated 22 Oct, 18:15 · Archive

A man has been jailed for disposing of a vehicle used in a fatal Sheffield shooting 20 years ago.

Faiser Hussain, 44, was sentenced to four years at Hull Crown Court on Thursday, October 22 after admitting perverting the course of justice. The charge relates to the 2006 murder of Ibrahim Ilyas, 20, who was shot while sitting in a car on Abbeyfield Road, Pitsmoor, on Saturday, June 3, 2006. Two other men were also injured in the shooting.

The vehicle used in the drive-by shooting was later found abandoned and burnt out on Psalters Lane in Rotherham. Hussain, of no fixed abode, was arrested at Manchester Airport on March 7 this year after re-entering the UK. He was charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder but pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice on Tuesday. The judge directed the jury to find him not guilty of the murder and attempted murder charges.

Mohammed Ali, of Fir Vale, was previously convicted of Ibrahim's murder and two counts of attempted murder after a seven-week trial at Sheffield Crown Court and was jailed for life with a minimum term of 30 years. Detective Chief Inspector Thomas Woodward said Ibrahim's family had 'shown immense courage having to re-live the painful and traumatic events surrounding his death'.
