A man jumped from the first floor of a burning takeaway restaurant in Finsbury Park to escape a blaze that required ten fire engines and 70 firefighters.
A man jumped from the first floor of a takeaway restaurant on Seven Sisters Road in Finsbury Park to escape a fire shortly before 4pm on Bonfire Night. Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters were called to the scene after the London Fire Brigade received the first of nine calls at 3.52pm.
Smoke issued from the ground, first and second floors of the mid-terraced building, which also contained flats above. The second floor flat and the roof were both damaged by the blaze. The man who jumped from the first floor before the Brigade arrived was treated for minor injuries by the London Ambulance Service and taken to hospital. Around eight others were evacuated from the building.
Station Commander Adam Lawson said local residents were advised to keep their windows and doors closed, and warned of very heavy traffic in the area. Seven Sisters Road was closed between Holloway Road and Finsbury Park station, affecting bus routes 4, 19, 29, 153, 253, 254 and 310. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
