Michael Kelly was sentenced to two years suspended for attacking a woman in a Cheshire hotel room.

Michael Kelly, 53, of Manchester, has been handed a two-year suspended sentence for assaulting a woman at the Cottons Hotel in Knutsford. The attack took place on the evening of 19 February. Police were called to the hotel on Manchester Road shortly before 9pm after reports of a disturbance in a room and the sound of a woman screaming.

Officers found Kelly walking out of the hotel as they arrived and stopped him. The victim, spoken to in the room, told officers that Kelly had attacked her several times, including shoving her around the room by her hair. The assault left clumps of her hair on the floor of the hotel room. She also suffered scratches, redness, swelling and bruising.

Hotel workers intervened during the attack and entered the room to stop the assault. Kelly was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm and was found guilty on 6 July. He appeared at Chester Crown Court on 15 October, where he was sentenced to two years suspended for two years.

PC Neilson-Clempner of Cheshire Police said the incident was unacceptable and that Kelly had been held accountable for his actions.
