Kylian Mbappe scored twice as Real Madrid beat Sevilla 4-1 in La Liga.

Real Madrid beat Sevilla 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu, with Kylian Mbappe scoring twice. The victory cuts Barcelona's lead at the top of La Liga to six points ahead of next weekend's El Clasico meeting between the rivals.

Arda Guler opened the scoring with a shot into the top corner after collecting Yan Diomande's pass. Mbappe added a second in the 37th minute with an impressive turn and finish past goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos. A penalty from Mbappe, following a foul on him by Andres Castrin, made it 4-0 before Sevilla pulled one back through Manu Bueno's composed finish. Diomande restored Real's three-goal lead with a thunderous strike.

Real Madrid played without suspended Vinicius Jr but produced what was described as one of their most complete performances. Fede Valverde made a crucial block to deny Felix Correia as Sevilla threatened to work their way back into the contest. Eder Militao came on as a substitute in the 85th minute for his first appearance since hamstring surgery in April.
