Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 6 Nov, 02:51 · Archive

Two men dressed as police officers tricked a young boy into letting them into his home in Holloways Beach, just north of Cairns, at about 10.15pm on 14 August. Security camera footage shows a man in what appears to be a police uniform waving a torch as he approaches the front door, with other clips showing him pacing back and forth in front of the home.

The men stole a safe and a hard drive before fleeing in an unknown vehicle. Nobody was physically injured during the home invasion. The men remain on the run and no arrests have been made, with the investigation ongoing.

Queensland Police have urged the public to be cautious. Genuine patrol officers in Queensland typically wear dark-coloured navy blue uniforms with carrier vests clearly displaying their names and ranks. Queensland police generally only wear light blue shirts during ceremonies. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
