Darlington's town centre Post Office will close on 28 November when its host retailer TGJones shuts under a court-approved restructuring plan.

Darlington's town centre Post Office will close on 28 November when the TGJones retailer hosting it closes its Darlington store under a court-approved restructuring plan. The branch operates inside TGJones at the Cornmill Shopping Centre. The closure will leave Darlington town centre without a Post Office whilst efforts continue to find a new operator.

Darlington MP Lola McEvoy has been contacted by residents concerned about losing the service and is demanding answers about the decision. She has written to the chief executive seeking clarification on why the closure is happening, what assessment was carried out before it was taken, and what support is being provided to affected employees.

McEvoy said: 'I know many people rely on this service, and it has left the dedicated staff who work there facing uncertainty about their future.' She added she would 'share the outcome of the consultation as soon as it's available and continue pressing for the answers that residents and staff deserve'.

TGJones confirmed the closure as part of efforts to secure the long-term future of the wider business, stating: 'We know this will be disappointing news for our colleagues, customers and the local community.'
