Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 16 Oct, 18:02 · Archive
Michael Mullins, a 56-year-old head teacher from Weaverham, died from multiple injuries after being struck by a Volvo, Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court heard. Simon Richardson is on trial accused of his murder.
Forensic pathologist Jamie Robinson gave evidence about the extent of Mr Mullins's injuries. He told the jury that Mr Mullins suffered severe blunt force trauma to the chest, extensive rib fractures on both sides, bruising to both lungs and a tear in one lung. He also suffered internal bleeding, blood in his air passages and major blood loss from external injuries.
Dr Robinson said the injuries were consistent with Mr Mullins being struck by the vehicle, dragged underneath it and run over. The injuries from being dragged underneath would have been life-threatening on their own, but the crush injuries to the right side of his chest were more severe. Mr Mullins was wearing a helmet at the time and suffered no major head injury. He was pronounced dead at 6.50pm on 20 April.
