Muncaster Castle will host a Halloween Family Festival from October 24 to November 1 with scare mazes, zombie shows and themed entertainment.

Muncaster Castle will host its annual Halloween Family Festival from October 24 to November 1, transforming the castle into a Halloween haven with a packed programme of entertainment across its historic grounds.

The festival includes a variety of spooky mazes, themed trails, parades, drumming workshops, walk-about acts, fire shows, costume competitions, games, inflatables and a silent disco. The castle's Hawk and Owl Centre and Weapons Hall will be open throughout the festival, featuring the World of Owls and Sky Hunters flying displays. Visitors can also try archery, axe throwing and crossbow sessions.

A highlight for younger visitors is the return of the Pumpkin Palace, with the first 2,500 children's tickets including a free pumpkin to carve on-site. This year's theatrical centrepiece is The Zombie-Boggle Apocalypse, a new castle show blending Cumbrian myth, legend and folklore with music, comedy and drama, running six times daily throughout the festival.

Ewan Frost-Pennington, managing director of Muncaster Castle, said the festivals 'get bigger and better every year' and expressed enthusiasm about offering 'truly unique experiences, like the Muncaster Express'.

For a distinctive arrival experience, visitors can use the vintage Muncaster Express ghost train, which will run two journeys through the Lake District and Cumbrian coast. On October 26, the train departs from Manchester Victoria with stops at Preston, Lancaster, Carnforth and Ulverston. On October 28, it departs from Carlisle, stopping at Penrith, Oxenholme, Carnforth and Ulverston, before arriving at Ravenglass station. Passengers will enjoy onboard entertainment and scenic views during the journey.
