Nathan Broad joins Fremantle Dockers coaching staff

Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 15 Oct, 06:32 · Archive

Three-time Richmond premiership player Nathan Broad has joined Fremantle as a development coach for the 2026 season.

Fremantle have confirmed three-time Richmond premiership player Nathan Broad has joined the club as a development coach among a suite of changes to their coaching panel for the 2026 season. The appointments follow departures of forwards coach Jaymie Graham, who has taken the senior role at North Melbourne, and Peel Thunder mentor Adam Read, who has joined Greater Western Sydney.

Former Fremantle player Tendai Mzungu has been elevated onto Justin Longmuir's panel as their back-line assistant, with incumbent Jade Rawlings switching into Graham's old role as forwards coach. Geoff Valentine, the former West Perth coach who headed up Fremantle's alignment partner in 2022 and 2023 before becoming the club's head of development, replaces Read with Peel Thunder. The club has also added Sam Mainwaring, who coached East Fremantle to the WAFL colts flag last season, to their development panel.

Broad, who called time on his 11-year playing career towards the end of last season, said he was excited to take on a new challenge. He said coaching had become more prominent as Richmond entered a new phase, and that working with a younger group had fast tracked his leadership credentials. Mzungu noted that his nine years as a coach with the club would serve him well in his new role.
