Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 15 Oct, 00:20 · Archive

Netflix is producing a documentary on Daejon Love, who posed as a San Francisco 49ers player to defraud over two dozen women of $1.3 million.

Netflix is producing a documentary titled 'Untold: Wide Deceiver' about Daejon Love, who allegedly posed as a San Francisco 49ers wide receiver to defraud women. Love, 35, is accused of using dating apps and fake workouts to convince victims he was a professional footballer, swindling them out of more than $1.3 million over more than two years.

According to federal prosecutors, Love and an 18-year-old accomplice, Taylor Jamie Chan, used Tinder, Bumble, Hinge and Facebook Dating to target women across California, Oregon and Washington. Love staged elaborate fake workouts, including clips of himself running routes on public beaches while wearing a replica 49ers helmet. He also created a mock contract signing video and used an AI-generated Google search snippet falsely listing him as a Niners receiver. When questioned about his roster status, Love claimed to have an injured finger.

Love and Chan were arrested at an airport in Boise, Idaho in August. Love was indicted on federal conspiracy and wire fraud charges, with the FBI identifying dozens of victims across multiple states. The documentary will feature interviews with the victims who fell for the scheme. No release date has been announced yet.
