Bright Side Café has opened in Ambleside, replacing Fresher's Café on Rothay Road.
Bright Side Café opened in Ambleside on 29 October, replacing Fresher's Café on Rothay Road. The owners, Lucas and Alexandrea Thwaites, have worked in the food-making industry for years and decided it was time to run their own business.
The pair grew up in Cumbria and say they 'absolutely love the Lakes', so opening in the town was a natural choice. The café serves Lake District breakfasts, bakes and Filipino-inspired ube and pandan drinks. The name reflects their aim to spread positivity and put 'a few smiles on local faces'.
Lucas said the response from the public has been encouraging. 'We were a bit nervous at first, obviously, with it being our first thing,' he said. 'We were nervous for what the reaction was going to be and whether people were going to look at us as two young, quite heavily tattooed people and go, what on earth are they doing? But no, honestly, it's been absolutely lovely, the support we've had.'
The 29-year-olds began searching for a property earlier this year, driven by approaching their 30th birthdays. Lucas explained: 'Honestly, we thought we need to start making some moves here and get a foot on the ladder.' They became homeowners and café owners within two months.
'It's absolutely mind-blowing and we are over the moon,' Lucas said. 'We just want people to come in, give us a chance and hopefully we can send everyone out with a good old smile and a full belly.'
