Third PlayZone sports facility opens in Immingham

Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 21 Oct, 12:08 · Archive

A new multi-use sports facility with floodlit pitch and basketball hoops has opened in Immingham, the third such venue in North East Lincolnshire in two years.

A new multi-use sports facility called PlayZone has opened in Immingham on Roval Drive. It is the third such venue to be built in North East Lincolnshire in the past two years, following openings at Grant Thorold Park in Grimsby and Kent Street in Grimsby.

The facility includes a 30 by 20 metre pitch, basketball hoops, benches, goals, fencing and LED floodlighting to allow for year-round use. According to BBC Lincolnshire, the venue will offer some free access for people living in the community. Residents can use an online booking system to reserve time on the facility, and groups can book more formal sessions for a small fee. North East Lincolnshire Council said the booking system is to 'ensure fairness and safety'.

Councillor Bob Callison, portfolio holder for environment, culture and tourism, said: 'It's important that people have spaces to come to and use however they want – that freedom is essential in keeping people active. This is a great addition to the town and I've no doubt it'll be well used.' The project was managed by Immingham Town Council as a partnership with North East Lincolnshire Council, the Football Foundation and the FA.

The venue forms part of North East Lincolnshire Council's Move Together project, which aims to increase physical activity and decrease inactivity in the area.
