Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 20 Oct, 14:08 · Archive

Network Rail will suspend trains between York and Leeds from 24 October to 1 November for major East Coast Main Line improvements.

Network Rail will suspend all trains between York and Leeds from 24 October to 1 November for a major programme of upgrades to the East Coast Main Line across North Yorkshire. The work takes place over two weekends and includes track renewals, drainage upgrades, overhead line works and the installation of a new road bridge at Church Fenton as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade. Platform two at York station will also have its surface improved.

Gunnar Lindahl, joint operations director for Network Rail and LNER, said: 'Engineers will be carrying out a major programme of improvements across North Yorkshire to make the East Coast Main Line more reliable for passengers and freight customers. These upgrades will help reduce the need for unplanned repairs, improve performance and support a more reliable railway for years to come.'

Rail replacement buses will operate between York and Leeds throughout the works, as well as between York and Micklefield, with connections to trains serving Leeds, Selby and Hull. Passengers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys and check travel information in advance. Train operating companies said they are 'working closely with Network Rail and industry partners to help customers travel during these important railway improvements'.
