North Yorkshire parents urged to apply for 2027 primary places

Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 13 Oct, 06:03 · Archive

North Yorkshire parents must apply online by January 15, 2027 for September 2027 primary school places.

Parents across North Yorkshire are being urged to apply now for primary school places for September 2027. Children born between September 1, 2022, and August 31, 2023, can start school in 2027. Applications must be made by January 15, 2027, with places announced on National Offer Day, April 16, 2027.

Parents can list up to five schools in order of preference. Councillor Annabel Wilkinson, North Yorkshire Council's executive member for education, learning and skills, said that families must make an application to their local authority by the deadline, as applying after this date could affect a child's school place allocation. She noted that parents must still apply even if their child is attending a nursery or has a sibling at the school they want them to attend.

Earlier this year, 96 per cent of North Yorkshire families obtained their first-choice primary school, up from 95 per cent the year before. The council is urging families to check its home-to-school travel policy before choosing schools, as the catchment school for admissions may not be the nearest suitable school for travel purposes.
