Marc Mason from Great Ayton will run his 100th marathon at the Yorkshire Marathon on 18 October, raising money for Middlesbrough MS Therapy Centre.

Marc Mason from Great Ayton is set to complete his 100th marathon at the Yorkshire Marathon on Sunday, 18 October, achieving a dream he has held for more than 25 years. He will be joined by his sons Andrew and Ben, who is travelling from Australia to run with his father and brother. The three have already raised more than £2,500 for Middlesbrough MS Therapy Centre, mirroring Mason's first marathon in 1999.

Mason began running in 1990 whilst teaching in Birmingham, finding it helped relieve stress. His 99 marathons to date have taken him across 19 countries, including Australia, Canada, the United States and several European countries. Since his first event, he has raised nearly £20,000 for various charities. Mason is chair of governors at Stokesley School and Sixth Form College.

He said: "After 99 marathons, my wife really wonders why I've put myself through this. But the UK 100 Marathon Club only has around 650 members, and I wanted to join it while I can still run." After finishing the challenge, Mason plans to visit Stokesley School to share his experiences with pupils.
