Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 19 Oct, 09:37 · Archive

Norwich has recorded the UK's second-highest number of illegal football streaming searches per capita, behind Glasgow.

Norwich has been named one of the UK's top hotspots for illegal football streaming according to data from Tipman Tips. The city recorded just over 11,000 searches per 100,000 residents, placing it second behind Glasgow, which topped the list with 14,709 searches per 100,000 residents. Manchester ranked third with 10,170 searches per 100,000 residents.

Tipman Tips analysed 95 football streaming-related Google search terms across the 100 most populated towns and cities in the UK. Over 12 months, Norwich recorded a total of 164,940 streaming-related searches.

Fraser Bricknell, founder of Tipman Tips, said YouGov data revealed that 25 per cent of British consumers cited costs as a reason for using unauthorised content. He noted that illegal streaming has become 'a topic of affordability ahead of convenience' for football fans, with clear demand for cheaper alternatives.

Illegal streaming is estimated to cost the UK economy £1.35 billion annually, with £700 million attributed to sports streaming. Bricknell warned that unauthorised streaming services present risks to fans, potentially exposing them to scammers and malicious software that could lead to theft of personal and financial information.
