Internet slang is becoming part of the way people celebrate with greeting cards, according to Moonpig, the online greeting card brand. The company analysed millions of personalised card messages to track which words and phrases people are using, revealing significant shifts in slang popularity.
'Mogging' has emerged as the fastest-growing expression, with use increasing by 455 per cent this year. The word, meaning to outshine or outperform someone or something, was named word of the year by Collins English Dictionary. '6-7' also made its mark with mentions rising 164 per cent, whilst 'aura' saw a more modest increase of 8 per cent.
Other slang terms have lost momentum. 'Sigma', 'skibidi' and 'rizz' all peaked in card messages in 2025 before falling sharply, with 'sigma' down 62 per cent, 'skibidi' down 59 per cent and 'rizz' down 41 per cent. 'Slay' has also dropped 30 per cent. Despite the rise of newer expressions, 'pookie' remains the most-used term tracked, appearing in more than 17,000 cards so far this year.
