Thomas Campbell, 35, from near Glasgow, was jailed for three months after sending sexually explicit messages to what he believed was a 14-year-old girl from Norwich.

Thomas Campbell, 35, from Clarkston near Glasgow, has been jailed for three months after sending sexually explicit messages via Facebook Messenger to what he believed was a 14-year-old girl from Norwich. He was in fact communicating with a decoy account set up to catch online sex offenders and operated by an adult woman, Sonia Tindall, from Norfolk.

Campbell received a friend request from the decoy account on 17 June 2024 and exchanged messages on Facebook Messenger. After the decoy said she was 14 and from Norwich, Campbell told her he was 33 and from Glasgow. He described himself as her 'future husband' and asked for pictures of her in her underwear and indecent images of herself. He also sent her sexual images, including an image of an erect penis, and asked her if she 'liked it'.

Campbell initially denied all wrongdoing but was found guilty of two sexual offences by a jury at Paisley Sheriff Court. Ms Tindall told the court that one of his more extreme messages made her feel 'really disgusted'. Sheriff Bruce Erroch KC sentenced him to three months and placed him on the sex offender's register for seven years.
