Actor Paterson Joseph will perform stories from his children's book Ten Children Who Changed the World at The Story Museum in Oxford on 24 October. He will be joined by composer Ben Park, who will create live musical responses to the storytelling.
The book tells true stories of ten young people who challenged injustice and helped secure freedom during a time when slavery was still legal. The stories draw on examples from Africa, the Americas and Europe. Joseph said the collection attempts to trace the origins of 'the heroes and heroines of Black History'. He added: 'These global stories are, I hope, an entertaining way to introduce you to these amazing people.'
Park said: 'Paterson's stories are incredibly powerful, but there's something special about bringing them to life with music. I'm delighted to be part of an event where storytelling, history, and live music come together in a way that can engage and inspire all.'
The event takes place at 2.30pm on 24 October. Tickets are £12.50 per person and it is recommended for ages seven and above. The Story Museum is located on Pembroke Street.
