Blackpool MP hosts first Older Persons' Fair with 50 organisations

Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 19 Oct, 12:01 · Archive

Blackpool South MP Chris Webb is holding an Older Persons' Fair offering free advice, support and entertainment from more than 50 organisations.

Blackpool South MP Chris Webb is holding his first Older Persons' Fair on Friday, October 23, at the Pavilion & Horseshoe in Blackpool's Winter Gardens from 9am to 3pm. More than 50 organisations will provide free advice, support and entertainment for older residents, with entry free to all.

The fair follows recent advice surgeries where Webb took up around 50 cases from pensioners. Webb said he decided to expand the initiative after finding that older people were often reluctant to seek help. 'What I took from the surgeries is how often people say they didn't want to be a bother,' he said. 'They worked, paid in and rarely asked for anything. Some are proud, some are nervous and some just don't know where to start.'

Organisations attending will cover money, benefits and housing through Citizens Advice, Blackpool Council and others including Clevr Money and Green Doctors. Health and wellbeing support will be offered by the Alzheimer's Society, Trinity Hospice and Blackpool Carers Centre, among others. Lancashire Police will provide crime prevention advice, while Blackpool Council's volunteers team, Community First and the Blackpool Centre for Independent Living will discuss volunteering and community involvement.
