A 33-year-old man from Pioneer, Louisiana, has been arrested on more than 500 counts of sex crimes against children, including first-degree rape. Shayne Stewart was apprehended on 30 September at a hotel in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, following an investigation that began on 29 September.
The Louisiana Bureau of Investigation's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force assisted the West Carroll Parish Sheriff's Office in the investigation into Stewart for possible sexual exploitation of children. Investigators determined that Stewart photographed and recorded himself raping at least two children under the age of 8. Agents obtained an arrest warrant and searched across multiple jurisdictions to apprehend him. The Hattiesburg Police Department assisted in taking him into custody.
Stewart was booked into the Forrest County Jail in Mississippi before being extradited to the West Carroll Parish Correctional Center. No bond has been set. Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill said: 'My heart breaks for these young victims! This is why the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force exists.' The investigation remains ongoing, and officials ask anyone who believes they know someone victimised by Stewart to contact the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation.
