Calne Bowls Club's amended extension proposals have received unanimous support from town councillors.

Calne Bowls Club has received unanimous backing from town councillors for amended plans to extend and improve its premises at Hillcroft.

The proposals include a new link and side extension which would provide ladies', gents' and accessible toilets. The plans would also enlarge the clubroom and remodel the existing clubhouse, with the aim of improving access and removing existing trip hazards.

Calne Town Council's Amenities and Facilities Committee gave the amended plans its unanimous support at a meeting on Monday, October 5. Councillors approved the revised proposal for the extension and associated works to the bowls club buildings. They also agreed that a new lease could be created to cover the additional land required for the extension.

The town council stressed that all costs associated with the proposed works, planning application and any remedial work needed to meet Energy Performance Certificate requirements would be the responsibility of Calne Bowls Club.

The club is now progressing its amended planning application with the town council involved because it owns the land. As landowner, the town council is required to be formally notified of the application. The amended proposals have also been considered by the council's Planning, Highways and Consultative Committee in its role as a consultee on planning matters.

The final decision on whether the extension can go ahead will be made by Wiltshire Council as the local planning authority, following the statutory planning process.
