Popular St Andrews hotel closes with 12 jobs lost

Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 14 Oct, 12:02 · Archive

Kinnettles Hotel in St Andrews has closed after the company fell into liquidation, leaving 12 employees without jobs.

Kinnettles Hotel on North Street in St Andrews has closed after liquidators were appointed to the company last month. The boutique hotel offered 15 bedrooms alongside a bar, spa and restaurant, and was located 200 yards from the famous Old Course golf course. All 12 employees have lost their jobs.

Two connected businesses, Kinnettles Mansion near Guardbridge and Kinnettles Castle near Forfar, have also been affected by the collapse. All three properties were put on the market earlier this year for a combined £15 million but subsequently fell into financial difficulty.

Callum Carmichael, a partner at FRP Advisory appointed joint provisional liquidator, told The Courier that the hotel had been well-established in St Andrews' hospitality sector but "the challenges facing the business and many like it in Scotland's hospitality sector ultimately proved insurmountable". He said the focus was now on "safeguarding the assets of the three companies and supporting those affected". The closure has also affected Gidi Grill, a West African and Afro-Caribbean restaurant that operated from the hotel, leaving its owner searching for new premises.
