Port Adelaide defeated Collingwood 52 to 4 in AFLW, keeping their slim finals hopes alive.
Port Adelaide defeated Collingwood 8.4 (52) to 0.4 (4) in AFLW, keeping their finals hopes alive with their biggest win of the season. Needing victories in their last two games and favourable results elsewhere, the 48-point margin easily eclipsed Port's previous best this season of 21. Collingwood's four-point score was their lowest-ever AFLW total, three points less than their previous low.
Port kicked six goals from turnovers and controlled the game, with Collingwood trailing 18-0 and 32-1 at the first two breaks. Midfielder Abbey Dowrick led Port's performance with 26 disposals, eight tackles and five clearances. Gemma Houghton kicked two goals, while Matilda Scholz, Shineah Goody and Teagan Germech were other strong performers. Collingwood won the hitouts and clearances but could not convert their stoppage work into goals.
The victory dragged Port level on points with eighth-placed Fremantle, Adelaide and Hawthorn, though those teams have a game in hand and lead on percentage. Retiring Port captain Justine Mules-Robinson said after her final match at Alberton: 'Such a relief to get a win. We wanted to be bold with our offence and we definitely displayed that today.' The result came as Collingwood dealt with captain Ruby Schleicher returning to Western Australia.
