Ipswich Post Office relocates to Sailmakers Shopping Centre

Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 21 Oct, 13:32 · Archive

Ipswich's Post Office will reopen at the Sailmakers Shopping Centre on Tavern Street on 16 November, replacing its previous location in TG Jones.

Ipswich will regain a central Post Office at the Sailmakers Shopping Centre on Tavern Street, opening at 11am on Monday, 16 November. The new branch replaces the former location inside TG Jones store on Westgate Street, which closed in August. It will operate Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5.30pm, offering 51 hours of service each week.

The branch will provide the same range of services as before, including access to accounts for customers of major UK banks, parcel and mail services and bill payments. An experienced postmaster currently managing a branch in Northampton has been appointed to run the new Ipswich location. The site is being refurbished to accommodate both the Post Office and a new card and stationery shop.

Wendy Hamilton, Post Office retail change lead, said: 'We know how important a Post Office is to the residents, businesses and visitors to Ipswich and we are delighted to be restoring service to the city centre and in time for the busy Christmas period.' The new branch is approximately 170 metres from the previous location, mostly on level ground, with a pay and display car park available 350 metres away on Crown Street.

Post Office Ltd described the relocation as a commercial decision and is not seeking feedback on the choice of site, but feedback on access to and within the premises is welcomed until 18 November.
