Summarised from 4 outlets · Updated 19 Oct, 10:28 · Archive

More than 200 properties across Cumbria have been affected by unexpected power cuts and planned maintenance work.

More than 200 properties across Cumbria have been hit by power cuts today, comprising both unexpected outages and scheduled maintenance work by electricity network operator Electricity North West.

In Kendal, 69 properties lost electricity following an unexpected incident with an underground cable affecting postcodes LA9 7AY, LA9 7BN, LA9 7AZ and LA9 7BA. Electricity North West stated: 'This power cut has been caused by an unexpected incident with the underground cable that provides electricity to your home or business. We didn't know before your electricity went off that this was going to happen but now we know, rest assured we will get your power back on safely and as quickly as possible.'

Two separate unplanned incidents in Brampton left homes without power. One outage cut supply to 22 addresses across postcodes CA8 1JE and CA8 1JD, whilst a second incident affected 24 properties across CA8 1JD, CA8 1HY, CA8 1JF, CA8 1HX, CA8 1HT and CA8 1HS. Both were attributed to unexpected underground cable faults. In Cartmel Fell, seven properties lost supply due to an underground cable problem, and in Sebergham, 23 addresses lost electricity because of an unexpected incident on a high voltage cable.

Alongside the unexpected faults, planned maintenance work is also affecting properties across Cumbria today. In Garsdale, 38 properties are scheduled to be without power across six postcodes. In Sebergham, 23 properties are set to be affected by planned work, and a single property in Windermere is also scheduled to lose electricity.
