Vape shops lose business rates relief across Lincolnshire

Summarised from GrimsbyLive's report · Updated 5 Nov, 13:41 · Archive

Around 60 vape shops in Lincolnshire are losing business rates relief as the government seeks to strengthen high streets.

Around 60 vape shops in Lincolnshire, including several in the north of the county, are set to lose business rates relief. Chancellor of the Exchequer John Healey MP told MPs that vape shops and adult gaming centres would be 'carved out' from business rate reliefs as part of efforts to 'clean up and strengthen high streets'. The government said the measure will help ensure support goes towards businesses that help local communities thrive.

The announcement came weeks after a new vape tax took effect on 1 October. All vaping liquids are now subject to excise duties, charged at £2.20 per 10ml, paid by manufacturers, importers and warehousekeepers approved by HM Revenue and Customs. A Vaping Duty Stamps Scheme was launched to provide digital traceability to help prevent illicit trade. Wholesalers and retailers have been given a six-month grace period to sell existing unstamped stock.

A separate Tobacco and Vapes Act made it illegal to sell vaping or nicotine products to anyone under 18, and made it an offence for adults to buy such products for minors, known as proxy purchasing. The age restriction covers nicotine vapes, non-nicotine vapes, nicotine pouches and other nicotine products.
